On The Path To The Guineas

THREE-YEAR-OLD filly Snitzel’s Jewel may be Gold Coast Guineas bound after making an immediate impact at her Queensland debut.

Having her first run for Kendrick Racing, Snitzel’s Jewel ($4.80) struck in a midweek city race at Doomben on April 2, despite jumping from barrier 11.

“It was a terrific win at her first outing since coming up from Sydney,’’ said trainer Stuart Kendrick.

“We’ll now look for a three-year-old metropolitan Saturday race for her,’’ he said.

“If she performs well the Guineas on the Gold Coast may be a nice option for her in May.”

Snitzel’s Jewel, a bargain purchase as a yearling by Darby Racing, was formerly trained by Gerald Ryan.

She’d shown ability down there, including a two-year-old win at Warwick Farm, but had a tendency to mix her form.

So the Darby Racing team made the decision to send her north to Kendrick Racing on the Sunshine Coast.

She had finished second at Canterbury back in January but was then last of nine runners over 1400m at Rosehill in February at her last Sydney run.

“She’s settled in nicely and her work has been sharp,’’ Kendrick said.

“Drawing wide for her first run back was a concern but Damian Browne rode her a treat.”

Browne was stuck three and four wide so elected to push forward on her and she settled not far off the pace with cover.

She swooped down the outside in the straight and finished strongly to run down Tuiserkan ($8) in the shadows of the post.
