Melbourne Column by George Lucas

I expect Lidari will go very close to breaking through for his first Australian win, when he lines up in the Baden Baden Trophy, 2000m. Meets Whisper Downs better at the weights this time and he'll love the sting out of the ground. Looks the bet of the day. Tuesday morning he strode over 1600m in 1.51 and 37.30 last 600m. Stick with him.

Verdant was awful last start, mch better than that run would suggest. Worked solidly on Tuesday woth Brungle Cry (Running in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes, 3200m) over 1600m, clocking 1.56.80 and 37.95 last 600m.
Calcatta is a last start Stakes Winner in Adelaide, she'll line up in the Carbine Club Plate 1000m. Racing very well this time in and looks a live chance once again. Not a lot of form on paper to line her up against, however, she worked beautifully on Tuesday morning, trainer Robert Smerdon is thrlled with her progress to date. She strode over 800m in 51.52 and 36.75 last 600m.
Electric Fusion is entered for the K.A Morrison Hcp, 1600m. Just starting to hit form now and can make his presence felt here. Last start 3rd behind General Peekay was solid, he's been looking for ground, keep following him this time in, a win isn't far off. Tuesday morning he worked over 1200m in 1.27 and 27.30, wasn't out to break any records.

Medvedev worked nicely over 1200m, clocking 1.18 and 36.80 last 600m. One at longer odds for the multiples.

Royal Island has been working well and shouldn't have a problem stepping up to the mile.
Our Celladoor looked good on Tuesday morning, she'll face the starter in the Trevor Clarke Hcp, 1200m. Meets a pretty handy field, but comes in very well at the weights with 52.5kg after the claim. She worked with stablemate La Tikka Rossa (also runig here), clocking 56.0 (800m)  and 23.80 last 400m.

Bloomingdale Miss loves the sting out of the ground and can improve sharply here.
Wet track specialist Dayita looks a chance to weigh in the Winter Championship Series heat 1400m. The key to her is a wet track, where she grows another leg. Solid run in the Wangoom, looked good on Tuesday morning working over 1200m in 1.18 and 36.80, partnering up with Medvedev.
