Hidden Dragon’s $2m Magic Millions Classic Prospect

08-12-2011

HIDDEN WARRIOR, a gelding by booming Danehill sire Hidden Dragon (Lyndhurst Stud, Warwick), one represented during the month of November by a spectacular 19 winners of 21 races, confirmed that he is a serious candidate for the $2million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic to be run at the Gold Coast on Saturday January 14 when he cruised to an easy front running win in a trial at Newcastle’s Broadmeadow on November 29.

It was the youngster’s first public test since he threw away victory in the race that often unveils future stars, the AJC Breeders Plate at Randwick on October 1, his only race start to date. Following on a seven lengths trial win ten days earlier, Hidden Warrior was beaten a head in the Plate by the Lonhro colt Pierro after taking the edge off early brilliance that took him to the lead by wanting to hang around the turn.  In the hands of Newcastle master trainer Paul Perry, the man who put Australia on the world sprinting map when he took the Danehill grandson Choisir to Royal Ascot in 2003, Hidden Warrior may need a good win before hand to get into the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, as it is again likely to attract many of the best in the age group. It could come in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 22.

The Wyong program has two Magic Millions races, the other being the $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes over 1200m. Along with the Gold Coast $2million Magic Millions Classic and $1million Gold Coast 3YO Guineas, they are among 14 races, all $100,000 plus in total value, open only open to graduates of Magic Millions yearling sales, the source of a big proportion of sale 2-year-olds.  Every one of the nine races scheduled for January 14 is only open to Magic Millions sale products.   First acceptances for the 2YO Classic and 3YO Classic close next Friday, December 9, and for the other races on the card on Tuesday January 3. All up, the runners will be chasing on the day $4.3million, making it the richest day in Queensland.

The race meeting is during the five session Magic Millions yearling sale commencing January 11 and covered by an 892 selected catalogue. Among them is a Hidden Dragon colt listed for Lyndhurst stud as lot 111 on the first day that is a brother to Hidden Warrior, a half-brother to Defiant Dane (won the 2010 AJC Gimcrack Stakes, third Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic) and three-quarter brother to Sea Spur (a Flying Spur Sydney winner and stakes placed performer).

They are from Marcovette, a Sydney 2-year-old winner by St Covet, runner up in1994 in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper.  Another Hidden Dragon in the catalogue that deserves a lot of interest is an August 11 born filly out of the Luskin Star Sydney winner Show of Force on account of Robyn Wise. Show of Force is the dam of five winners headed by a three-quarter brother to the filly in Atomic Force, a $50,000 Magic Millions sale Danehill Dancer gelded sprinter who has won ten races and earned $747,050.
