Manighar (FR) and Lights Of Heaven (NZ) will contest the Kirks Doomben Cup, 2000m. Leaning towards Manighar, who's been the real deal over the Autumn Carnival, stringing together 3 Group 1 wins. He's the class horse of the field and will be hard to hold out at the business end. Trainer Peter Moody is delighted with the way he's settled in, no excuses here. Lights Of Heaven showed she's almost back to her best last start, failing by the barest of margins. Her recent work has been excellent, take on trust.

ATLANTIC JEWEL’S sire Fastnet Rock has galloped away with the 2011-12 champion sire title with national earnings of more than $10million to the end of April. His success, his first title, means this Coolmore, Hunter Valley headquartered son of Danehill and the quality Royal Academy 2-year-old Piccadilly Circus, has provided the Australian bred sires with the champion sire title for the seventh successive year.

SHE may not be as good as Black Caviar, but Atlantic Jewel, a remote relation by Fastnet Rock to icon sprinter Manikato, came out of autumn racing with an aura of greatness. She appeared only twice during the campaign, but maintained her unbeaten record with strong wins at Randwick, appearances in the Sapphire Stakes-Gr.2 (1200m) and then, at her first crack at the males, in the All-Aged Stakes-Gr.1 (1400m).

RESULTS suggest that Luke Murrell and Jamie Lovett, Newcastle based founders and directors of the dynamic thoroughbred investment and marketing company Australian Bloodstock, are among the best judges in racing and breeding, not only of local horses but also tried European performers.

The Robert Smerdon trained Red Typhoon ventures back to Adelaide, in search of black type glory, she'll line up in the SA Fillies Classic, 2500m. Her form has been outstanding this time in. Last start in the Schweppes Oaks she finished a respectable 3L off Invest. Firness wise she is absolutely spot on and shouldn't have any issues stepping up in distance. Tuesday morning she worked over 1600m in 1.50.37 and 37.18 last 600m. Nice each way bet.

AMONG the sires with which Martin Hawcroft, the popular Hunter Valley horse stud and motel owner who was killed by what was apparently a gun blast to the stomach while climbing through fence on the family’s Byerley stud at the beginning of the week, found much to like about The Dane.

MARES bred on the tableland on top of the Razorback, a mountain that rises up from the southern perimeter of the historic NSW town of Camden and borders the Hume Highway, comprise the first two dams of Vatuvei, a 3-year-old gelding who suggested he is a rising staying star in the Peter Moody stables with a strong win in last week’s Victorian St Leger over 2800m at Flemington.

GALILEO, the Sadler’s Well’s 2001 English and Irish Derby winner now being lauded as one of Europe’s greatest ever sires from his base at Coolmore in Ireland, left 500 foals from five visits to their Hunter Valley complex, 2002-06, but when his gelded 7-year-old son Niwot took the Sydney Cup on Saturday he became only his second Group1 winner in Australia.

The Peter Moody trained galloper Almodovar will back up in the Schweppes Plate, 2800m. Has returned to racing this time in a much better horse, hard to see anything challenging him here and he should dispose of this field. Restricted to trot and canter work, fitness wise, spot on, will have no problems running out the journey.
